MARRIAGE STORMS
Why our marriages don’t last –Nollywood actress
A thespian , Tessy Ijeh , says that marriage breakups often experienced by actresses are mainly caused by the herculean task of combiningg the home front and acting.
Delta - born Ijeh, a Continuity Manager at Nollywood, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos that combining the homefront and acting was a task many actresses found difficult to manage.
“ Acting really takes a woman out of her home because it is tasking ; most of our husbands don ’t recognise this as they mount pressure on us.
“ Some actresses , unable to cope with this task, often abandon their homes to face their career because even the husbands cannot provide all that their wives need .
“ Children are the most affected in relationship breakups, because once the parents are divorced , and the mother still goes on with her career, the children are left uncared for .
“ The children will miss their mother’ s affection more and this is one thing that we have yet to find solution to in this part of the world ; but others have gone ahead,’’ Ijeh said .
The actress , who had her secondary education at Eko Girls Grammar School, Okota , Isolo in Lagos , said that sexual harassment in the entertainment industry was real .
She said that she had faced one before but she took her stand .
“ Sexual harassment is real in our business but everybody has a choice to make . I once faced the devil and the deep blue sea before and I chose the one that I felt was right.
“ I was faced with sexual harassment when I first joined the industry . It is a sacrifice that I have to make because I started as a model .
“ The director made a pass at me and I told him if this is what I will face to be popular , I will rather remain in the background and I left.
“ Sometimes , some film directors ask for our bodies in return for a role , but it ’ s unfortunate that some ladies will even throw themselves at the directors . It is wrong on both sides ,’’ she said.
Ijeh said that roles played by actors and actresses in a film might have some spiritual undertone , while some might not, adding that it takes courage to stay off roles .
“ Roles that we play in movies sometimes come with some spiritual undertones which I have an experience about .
“ I acted in a movie called ` No Money, No Sex ’ , and in the movie , I acted as a bi - sexual which I have to put myself in it ; later I discovered that I’m having strange sexual feelings .
“ I quickly readjusted and pray against it and stayed off . It also affected me when I played the role of a witch in a film. There is spiritual side of every act ,’’ she said .
Ijeh , a product of Institute of Management Technology , Enugu , and a former teacher , said that though some roles in a film come with its inherent dangers, the dangers could be averted if adequate caution was adhere to .
“ The roles we often play in films are sometimes dangerous of which we should be extra careful in dealing with; nevertheless, we can take
precaution to counter the dangers.
“ Actors get roles based on their interpretation of previous roles played . This particular role may stick to them and be their favoured roles ; but actors must be dynamic.
“ For some playing the role of a gateman, it may be their strong point and they may never get other roles; likewise a witch or wicked person in the case of Patient Ozokwo .
“ Roles sometimes also define how far an actress will go. If an actor continues to get a role of a gatekeeper , how many gatekeeper roles will he get to make it ,’’ she said. (NAN )

Army Retires Senior Officers
Army confirms retirement of senior officers over defence contracts
Kaduna - The Nigerian Army has confirmed the retirement of some senior officers from service following the approval of the Army Council.
A statement issued by the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, on Saturday, said the approval was confirmed at the meeting of the council on Thursday.
Although Usman did not disclose the number of officers affected, he said their retirement was based on service exigencies.
``The Army wishes to inform the general public that quite a number of senior officers of the Nigerian Army were retired from service yesterday.
``Those retired were mainly some major-generals, brigadiers-general, colonels, lieutenant-colonels and a major.
``Their retirement was based on service exigencies,’’ the statement said.
It recalled that not too long ago some officers were investigated for partisanship during the 2015 general elections.
Usman further said the retirements were connected with the investigation by the Presidential Committee investigating defence contracts.
He said some officers had already been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Usman advised the public not to read the development out of context, stressing that the military must remain apolitical and professional at all times.

GOOD BYE KESHI. R.I.P.
Nigerian football icon Stephen Okechukwu Chinedu Keshi died suddenly in the early hours of Wednesday in Benin City, Edo state, TheCable understands.
He was scheduled to return to the United States on Wednesday evening before he suffered cardiac arrest.
The former international football player and coach had lost his wife of 35 years, Kate, last year after a prolonged battle with cancer.
TheCable confirmed his death from a member of his family as well as one of his close associates.
“He was not ill at all, never showed any signs of illness, but we suspect he never got over the death of his wife,” a friend said.
He is survived by four children and his mother.
Keshi, the only Nigerian coach to have won the Africa Cup of Nations, achieved a rare feat in 2013 by becoming only the second person to win the trophy both as a player and a coach.
The only other person to have achieved the feat is Egypt’s Mahmoud El-Gohary.
Keshi, a product of St. Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Lagos, started his playing career at a very young age at ACB Football Club, and later played for New Nigeria Bank, Stade d’Abidjan, Africa Sports, Lokeren, Anderlecht, RC Strasbourg, and a host of other clubs.
He represented Nigeria from 1982, at age 20, till 1994, most of the time captaining the Super Eagles and scoring vital goals from his position as a central defender.
He also coached Togo and Nigeria at the World Cup, as well as Mali.
Keshi, nicknamed the “Big Boss” for his leadership skills, is the fifth member of the all-conquering 1994 team to die, following Uche Okafor, Thompson Oliha, Rashidi Yekini and Wilfred Agbonavbare.
‘HE HAS FOUND REST’
Meanwhile, the family has released a statement announcing his death.
The statement signed by Emmanuel Ado was titled: “Stephen Keshi CON has gone to be with his wife”.
“With thanksgiving to God, the Ogbuenyi Fredrick Keshi family of Illah in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, announces the death of Mr. Stephen Okechukwu Chinedu Keshi,” Ado wrote.
“Our son, brother, father, father-in-law,brother-in-law, has gone to be with his wife of 35 years (Nkem), Mrs. Kate Keshi, who passed on on the 9th December 2015.
“Since her death, Keshi has been in mourning. He came back to Nigeria to be with her. He had planned to fly back today Wednesday, before he suffered a cardiac arrest. He has found rest.
“We thank God for his life.
“We want to ask for understanding in this very difficult time for the family.”

Waje Guides Daughter
I Won’t Let My Daughter End Up as a ‘Baby Mama’ Like Me – Waje
RELATED ITEMS: FEATURED, WAJE
In an exclusive chat with Genevieve magazine, multi-award winning music star, Aituaje Iruobe, popularly known as Waje, has opened up on her misgivings in life as a single mother, stressing that her daughter, Emerald, will not make the same mistakes she made by being put in the family way outside wedlock.
The mother of one, said, “I’m a mother but I know where to draw the line. It is because I don’t want her to make the same mistakes I made. I feel like some of the decisions I made was because I was raised differently.
“Our parents taught us what they knew as the truth, but what you know as the truth might not be the truth. Another thing is that parents do not tell their children why certain behaviours should be avoided.
“For example, parents say, “don’t drink because I said so” not, “don’t drink because it is bad for your health”; but I’m learning that for the children of this age, you have to tell them all the reasons why they should not do certain things.
“While my daughter was growing up, I took up the reward method; you do good, you get good. There was a consequence for every action,” she said.
Waje and her daughter
Waje, whose daughter recently turned 17 continued, “There were many times I really prayed that The One will quicken his steps to make things easier. It did get too much when it is time to pay rent, school fees, and other miscellaneous expenses.
“I had my own share of pillow cries and made sure she doesn’t see it. Sometimes she could come asking, “Why didn’t you and my Dad stay together?” And, when I first moved to Lagos, I couldn’t afford to have my daughter with me because I didn’t have a house; I was squatting with someone. There was a time I saw her like twice a year.
“There were times she cried, mummy I want to come and live with you, but I couldn’t afford it till 2011. Yet looking at my daughter, I will be honest that she is a blessing.
“And the blessing outweighs the challenges. I have learnt to be patient, more accommodating and to pay attention to details as a mom. I have also learnt to map out my priorities, because there are some things I simply cannot do as a mom.”
The sensational singer noted that her baby-daddy wasn’t ready at the time she took in. According to her, “I was young. He was young. Our relationship now is very cordial. We respect each other. He has not always been a part of my daughter’s life until recently.
“He met her last year. When she was quite young he showed interest but my fear was that he won’t be consistent. I didn’t want a situation where he would come in this year and leave the next. So I had to wait till I was sure that he would be there,” she added.

ISLAM IS A GREAT RELIGION: BY AJUMOBI SUCCESS ADEWALE
The general answer to blasphemy (Sabb ala Allah wa Rasulihi) as commanded in the Qur’an is to respond with patience, beautiful preaching, and graceful avoidance. The Qur’an records the fact that the Prophet was called a “sorcerer,” a “madman,” and a “liar,” yet Allah commanded him to be patient and to increase his acts of worship.
Allah Said:
“Be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.” (Surah Al-Muzzamil 73:10)
And Allah said:
“So be patient over what they say and exalt with the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting.” (Surah Qaf 50:39)
And Allah said:
“So be patient over what they say and exalt with the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting.” (Surah Ta Ha 20:130)
These insults deeply hurt the feelings of the Prophet and his Companions, but Allah did not prescribe revenge for them.
Allah said:
“We already know that your heart is constrained by what they say, so glorify the praises of your Lord and be among those who prostrate.” (Surah Al-Hijr 15:97-98)
In fact, Allah told the Prophet and his Companions to expect more insults and mockery from the followers of other religions, and that they should remain patient and not let their abuse shake their faith.
Allah said:
“You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves, and you will surely hear from those who were given the scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah that is of the matters requiring resolve.” (Surah Ali Imran 3:186)
In other verses, Allah commands the believers to simply avoid those who mock Islam and not to sit with them until they discuss something else.
Allah said:
“ When you see those who engage in offensive discourse concerning our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversion.”
(Surah Al-An’am 6:68)
And Allah said:
“It has already been revealed to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah, they are denied and ridiculed. So do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Verily, you would then be like them.” (Surah An-Nisa 4:140)
Generally, the Prophet was commanded to endure any insult or mockery from his enemies which resulted from their bad character.
Allah said:
“Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.” (Surah Al-A’raf 7:199)
Abdullah ibn Zubair explained this verse, saying:
“ The Prophet was commanded to forgive the people’s bad character.” (Sunan Abu Dawud 4787)
There are many recorded incidents in the life of the Prophet in which he was mocked, defamed, and even physically attacked for his faith in Islam, but despite this abuse the Prophet responded with patience, forbearance, mercy, and forgiveness.
In one incident, a group of Jews insulted the Prophet in his own home. Although the Prophet was the leader of Madinah at the time, he did not order these men to be harmed. Rather, he used the incident to teach his Companions an important lesson about kindness.
Aisha reported:
“A group of Jews asked permission to visit the Prophet and when they were admitted they said, “Death be upon you.” I said to them, “Rather death and the curse of Allah be upon you!” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “O Aisha, Allah is kind and He loves kindness in all matters.” I said, “Have you not heard what they said?” The Prophet said: “I said to them: And upon you.” (Sahih Bukhari 6528).
Al-Bukhari records this narration in his chapter regarding those who curse and abuse the Prophet, which strongly implies that he did not believe legal punishment should be applied to every case of blasphemy.
Badr ud-Din Al-Ayni, a scholar of the Hanafi School, comments on this chapter heading:
“Al-Bukhari has adopted the method of the people of Kufi on this issue, that if someone curses or berates the Prophet and he is a non-Muslim citizen, then he is rebuked but he is not killed. This is the opinion of Ath-Thawri.” (Umdat al-Qari fi Sharh Sahih Al-Bukhari 34/412).
In another incident, the Prophet was defamed and insulted by one of the men of Madinah who was upset with his method of distributing charity. The Prophet did not retaliate against him even though he was very disturbed by it, citing the fact that Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, was harmed by his people with much greater abuse.
Allah Said:
“Be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.” (Surah Al-Muzzamil 73:10)

WHAT NEXT
WHAT NEXT?
Thank God we had it peaceful, Nigerians have shown that we are capable once again to set the pace for African countries. Thanks to President Jonathan who took the path of honour and Prof. Jega, who also kept a clean image and improve our electioneering process with the use of PVC and card reader. In all of this I believe the people are the real beneficiaries and winners. What all these processes had succeeded in doing is to heap real responsibilities on the winners of these elections, from the President-elect to the house of assembly winners. Nigerians have high hopes in those they have chosen to lead in the next four years, because they have simply tell those who lost elections that; "look, we don't trust you let Mr. A, do the job" so to Mr. A, it's a trust impose on him which he must fulfil. I was opportune to hear from a reliable source a comment between Buhari and his deputy, Osinbajo, during one of their campaign rallies. The general asked his deputy sitting beside him in a car while thousands of ordinary Nigerians waves. He said to him "Osinbajo, what do you see in those people?" and the deputy replied "our supporters" then the general said "no", and told his deputy, "those people are expecting so much from us and we must not fail them, because we are their last hope". If so, then the people had simply shifted their burden to the new leaders and the earlier others elected persons realize this, the better and prosperous we all will be. Our past leaders have made governance look like mathematics that can be difficult to solve, but evidences from other climes has shown that it is not. All it takes for a good governance is COMMITTED LEADERSHIP. Lee kuan yew of Singapore, Deng xioping of China, Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum of Dubai, and Najib Rasak of Malaysia have all shown to us that sheer determination can move a country to its manifest destiny. I choose to use the above countries because they all started with Nigeria in the sixties as developing nations. (At least I know this as a historian) Today they all rank among the best countries of this world. When I see the level of supports and sacrifices of many Nigerians for Buhari in his bid to rule this country, something tells me he has no choice but to perform and live up to expectations especially in the area of corruption which was his selling point. As we all notice yesterday that the turn out of voters was very low compared to the forth night Presidential election, where everyone troop out to cast a vote. This again shows that the people looks forward to the man at the center. In all and all Nigerians are the real winners of this unfolding NEW NATION.

BAD BREATH - HALITOSIS
HOW TO CURE AND STOP BAD BREATH
What is Bad Breath?
Bad breath, which is also called halitosis, is an
embarrassing health condition that affects approximately
30% of people around the world. It is associated with a foul
oral odor. According to the Academy of General Dentistry,
in over 90% of bad breath cases, the odor originates in the
mouth, throat, and tonsils.
The bad breath odor is usually caused by a group of
anaerobic, sulfur-producing bacteria that breed beneath the
surface of the tongue and often in the throat and tonsil
area. These bacteria occur naturally in your oral
environment and are supposed to be there because they
assist your digestion by breaking down proteins into amino
acids. Proteins are commonly found in food, mucus or
phlegm, blood and in diseased oral tissue.
As the bad breath bacteria feast on proteins in your mouth,
sulfur compounds are released from the back of your
tongue and throat. The bacteria excrete waste as hydrogen
sulfide, methyl mercaptan and other odorous and bad
tasting compounds known as volatile sulfur compounds. As
long as this process of anaerobic bacteria feeding on
proteins and excreting volatile sulfur compounds continues
unchecked, your breath will become worse and worse.
4 Common Bad Breath Causes
There are many causes of bad breath but there are 4
causes of bad breath that are very common.
1. Dry mouth - a dry mouth provides a perfect environment
for anaerobic bacteria reproduction. Longperiods of
speaking, smoking, drinking alcohol and snoring are a
few common reasons why people experience dry mouth.
Most people experience bad breath in the morning due
to lack of saliva production while they sleep. For healthy
individuals, food odors are temporary and normal
salivary flow will eliminate it within several minutes.
However, those who suffer from dry mouth and lack of
saliva find that even minor food odors may end up
becoming long term bad breath problems.
2. Foods - Bad breath can be made worse by certain foods
such as onions and garlic because they contain smelly
sulfur compounds. Dairy, meat and fish contain dense
proteins which are used as a food source by the
anaerobic, sulfur-producing bacteria that cause bad
breath. Refined and processed sugars also provide a
food source for bacteria. Coffee and juices can
contribute to bad breath because they are acidic and
provide the bacteria with an ideal breeding environment.
3. Poor dental hygiene - Inadequate oral care leads to
bacterial buildup on the teeth and gums. This leads to
gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis, which can
cause halitosis because the proteins from bleeding
gums and diseased oral tissue provide fuel to odor-
causing bacteria.
4. Illness and disease - According to studies, in
approximately 10% of all cases, bad breath is caused by
certain illnesses. Individuals who suffer from diabetes,
lung disease, kidney disease, cancer, liver disease,
respiratory tract infections or metabolic disorders often
experience chronic bad breath due to dry mouth.
Sinusitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, post nasal drip and
polyps affect the airways and may cause halitosis.
Other common illnesses than can cause bad breath
include nasal odor, putrefaction from the tonsils, tooth
decay, yeast infections of the mouth and gum disease.
Certain drugs such as antidepressants, high blood
pressure medications and antihistamines can cause bad
breath because they reduce saliva production.
Bad Breath Treatment
In most cases bad breath can
be successfully treated. Bad
breath treatment depends on
its cause.
Please keep in mind that you
cannot eliminate the bacteria
that cause bad breath from
the tongue. Consequently,
scraping or brushing the
tongue is a temporary solution
at best, and is typically
frustrating for those who believe tongue scraping or tongue
brushing is a permanent solution to bad breath. The
bacteria that cause bad breath are actually part of your
normal oral flora and need to be present in order to break
down proteins as a key step in proper digestion.
A much simpler and clinically-proven method to treat bad
breath is to interrupt the bacteria’s chemical production of
odors by the introduction of oxygenating compounds to
your oral environment. Oxygen is lethal to the bacteria that
cause bad breath because they are anaerobes and cannot
survive or function in the presence of oxygen.
In general, a dentist will recommend mouthwashes and
toothpastes that contain oxidizing agents such as chlorine
dioxide or sodium chlorite to neutralize volatile sulfur
compounds and help control odor causing bacteria found in
the mouth.
If you are experiencing dryness in the mouth, your dentist
will recommend a saliva substitute to moisten the mouth
throughout the day.
Some effective, natural ingredients to look for in oral care
products are zinc gluconate, aloe vera, green tea, tea tree
oil, xylitol, CoQ10, glycyrrhizic acid and oral probiotics like
K12 and M18.
6 Bad Breath Home Remedies
The practice of a few, simple, self-care techniques can help
to minimize bad breath. There are several things you can
at home to treat bad breath.
1. Advance oral care products - Use oral care products
such as mouthwashes and toothpastes that have been
shown to be effective in fighting bad breath.
2. Proper oral care - Brush and floss your teeth at least
twice a day. This helps to remove any food and plaque
which can be used as a fuel source by the anaerobic,
sulfur-producing bacteria that cause bad breath.
3. Stimulate your salivary flow - Prevent dry mouth with
chewing gum, lozenges, or mints that are sugar free.
Look for Xylitol as a sweetener. In recent years, Xylitol
has been shown to have anti-cavity properties and is a
non-sucrose sweetener.
4. Eat fibrous fruits and vegetables- One of the best ways
to remove bacteria in the mouth is to eat an apple a
day. It helps moisten the mouth, too.
5. Take a dietary supplement - Take Vitamin C, Vitamin D,
Vitamin E, and Vitamin B. These vitamins are effective
at helping your body eliminate excess mucus and toxins
naturally.
6. Brush your teeth occasionally with baking soda –
Thebacteria that cause bad breath thrive in an acidic
oral environment. Brushing your teeth with baking soda
helps neutralize excess acids found in the oral cavity.
12 Easy Ways to Prevent Bad Breath
Please remember, preventing bad breath is always easier
than treating it. By developing the right habits, you can be
effective at preventing bad breath.
1. Eat foods rich in fiber - High fiber foods actually help
prevent halitosis. Avoid eating heavily processed foods
that contain refined carbohydrates such as cookies,
cakes, sweets and ice cream.
2. Use mouthwash - Some mouthwashes or oral rinses are
effective at preventing bad breath. However, you should
never use alcohol based mouthwashes because the
alcohol makes the mouth very dry, which will actually
cause bad breath.
3. Drink green and black teas - They contain polyphenols
that help eliminate sulfur compounds and reduce oral
bacteria.
4. Avoid drying medication - Avoid taking antidepressants,
diuretics, pain relievers and antihistamines unless it is
absolutely, medically necessary. These drugs inhibit
saliva flow and cause halitosis.
5. Avoid products with sodium lauryl sulfate or alcohol -
Do not use any oral hygiene products that contain
sodium lauryl sulfate or alcohol because the alcohol
makes the mouth very dry, which is a leading cause of
bad breath.
6. Clean your mouth after eating meat, fish or dairy
products - Practice consistent and thorough oral hygiene
to prevent bad breath.
7. Stop smoking - Studies have shown that smokers
present a higher risk of developing periodontal disease
and bad breath because smoking causes dry mouth
which can cause bad breath.
8. Breathe through your nose instead of your mouth - Try
to address any snoring or sleep apnea issues that could
be affecting your breath and causing dry mouth.
9. Drink water - Keep your mouth moist by drinking plenty
of water.
10. Clean your dentures at least once a day - Practice the
same, proper oral care that you would with your original
teeth.
11. Eliminate dairy products from your diet - Bad breath
can easily be caused by lactose intolerance.
12. Use an oral probiotic like S. salivarius K12 and M18 -
Use probiotics to balance the oral cavity and prevent an
overgrowth of the odor causing bacteria that can cause
bad breath.
What is Bad Breath?
Bad breath, which is also called halitosis, is an
embarrassing health condition that affects approximately
30% of people around the world. It is associated with a foul
oral odor. According to the Academy of General Dentistry,
in over 90% of bad breath cases, the odor originates in the
mouth, throat, and tonsils.
The bad breath odor is usually caused by a group of
anaerobic, sulfur-producing bacteria that breed beneath the
surface of the tongue and often in the throat and tonsil
area. These bacteria occur naturally in your oral
environment and are supposed to be there because they
assist your digestion by breaking down proteins into amino
acids. Proteins are commonly found in food, mucus or
phlegm, blood and in diseased oral tissue.
As the bad breath bacteria feast on proteins in your mouth,
sulfur compounds are released from the back of your
tongue and throat. The bacteria excrete waste as hydrogen
sulfide, methyl mercaptan and other odorous and bad
tasting compounds known as volatile sulfur compounds. As
long as this process of anaerobic bacteria feeding on
proteins and excreting volatile sulfur compounds continues
unchecked, your breath will become worse and worse.

WHY GEJ FAILED
Major Reasons Why Jonathan Failed;
The fantasy of office
President Jonathan was carried away by
the fantasy of office, and assumed some
goose didn’t like him. He kept saying that
there were fifth columnists in his
government. The luxury of office like
‘Alice in wonders land’ did not allow him
to take prompt action. He forgot the limit
of time in office.
Procrastination
There were several national issues that
required swift and precise actions but he
remained indecisive, not willing to offend
any interests. Though a gazette on
downsizing of parastatals was issued f
they are still intact and getting revenues.
The Security Question
He was confused from the beginning and
left the Boko Haram question hanging till
the period of election, making the society
to think that he was playing politics with
security. There will always be fifth
columnist in any government. It is left for
the government to be bold enough to pull
the bull by the horn.
. Corruption
Corruption is a menace everywhere. The
challenge is how he addressed it .He
was weak in driving firm actions on
corruption. He tolerated and
accommodated corrupt officers unlike
Obasanjo did to Bode George and Afolabi
Sunday. EFCC has done a lot of
prosecution but for the courts legal
barriers. Even though the Chief Justice
told him that corruption is a mere
thievery he is not just the head of the
Executive but the President of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria, and he
should interrogate the context. Lamorde
in the EFCC tried to re-invent the Ribadu
legacy but the presidential support was
too moralistic and weak.
Mismanagement of PDP political crisis
The crisis in the ruling party was a great
disservice to Jonathan. Bamanga
wanted to control the governors. In the
presidential system after elections the
parties slide to the back stage.
Unfortunately, President Jonathan paid
too much due respect to Alhaji Bamanga
eldership and watched helplessly as the
party went down the drain.
Did he read The Prince?
May be he never read the prince. Even
democrats aspiring to lead read The
Prince .Politics is about power. Power is
who gets what when and how, and in the
process it is the authoritative allocation
of resources. ‘The Prince’ sets out
characteristics for a political leader to
do, whether a dictator or democrat.
Imbalance in appointments
Immediately President Jonathan got his
election in 2011 he forgot the balancing
political zones. The South west was
abandoned and forgotten. So also the
middle Belt (the North Central).He
concentrated his attention on Northwest
which rarely gave him 25%. From the
2015 election the result was worst off
from the Northwest compared to 2011.
PDP a went to sleep after 2011
Immediately PDP won the 2011 election
it went to sleep. The historical nostalgia
that opposition politics has never been
strong in Nigeria was their making. It was
the greatest mistake to make in modern
politics.
Failure of personal research
He failed to take advice outside the box
and did not carry out personal research.
Some intellectuals tried to offer free
advice but were shun by those in the
corridor of power, as academic hawkers.

CORRUPTION
Corruption, Which way Nigeria ?
Which way Nigeria , which way to go. I love my
father land, I want to know Which way Nigeria
is heading to … . Many years after our
independence we still find it had to start , How
long shall we be patience before we reach the
promise land? Let save Nigeria so that Nigeria
won ’ t fall……
This is an extract from one of the songs of
Late Sunny Okosun . This song was released in
the 80s . Some days ago , I was thinking about
what Sunny Okosun would have sung now ,
assuming he is still alive . Where is Nigeria
heading to ? Who will deliver this country from
the jaws of corruption? When will this monster
called corruption be destroyed ? What is the
way out for Nigeria ?
These are some of the many painful questions
that are crying for answers . The rate at which
this deadly virus called corruption is eating
deep into the society , is very worrisome ; from
the various levels of government , executive, the
legislative and judiciary to the corporate world
and security agencies , the story is the same.
One cannot but wonder how or when things
degenerated to this level.
There is now no big deal , when you hear that
someone is arrested or arraigned in respect of
a case of corruption. Former ministers , former
governors, former speakers of house of
representative, commissioners to local
government chairmen etc are all involved in the
mess called corruption. The story is the same
everywhere. The challenge now is that, all
these people whenever they are caught have no
shame whatsoever . You will see them beaming
with smiles as if they had won the National
honours.
I really wonder what messages we are sending
to the younger ones . Can it now be that , these
are the ones the youth see as role models and
this encourages them to dabble into internet
fraud and examination malpractices ? What we
do now , will go a long way to determine what
will become the future of this Nigeria .
We all
must fight
corruption
to a
standstill ;
enough of
paying
lip - service
to fighting
corruption. The only thriving business now
seems to be in politics; it is no wonder that
people are ready to do anything attain political
power. Service and the love of the nation have
been relegated to the background; and we are
all feasting on the nation like rats will feast on
cheese .
