THE BENEFITS OF VACATION
Health Benefits Taking time away from work and routine allows the body to replenish and repair itself, according to Karen Matthews of Mind Body Center at the University of Pittsburgh, quoted on npr.com. The center surveyed 1,399 participants recruited for studies on cardiovascular disease, breast cancer and other conditions, and found that leisure activities, including taking vacations, contributed to higher positive emotional levels and less depression among the participants. Other benefits include lower blood pressure and smaller waistlines, reports npr.com. Women especially seem to benefit from taking vacations, according to a 2005 study conducted by Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin, published in the Wisconsin Medical Journal and reported on medicalnewstoday.com. Women who vacationed less often than once every two years were more likely to suffer from depression and increased stress than women who took vacations at least twice a year. Creativity and Innovation Benefits Robert Kriegel, author of "How to Succeed in Business Without Working So Damn Hard," says workers get many of their best ideas away from the job. Without the pressure to respond to each crisis that arises, workers have the opportunity to consider innovative approaches, Kriegel explains on money.cnn.com. "Vacation should be really defined as a time when we can really turn off those tech work savers and just relax and have fun," says Robert R. Butterworth, a Los Angeles psychologist with International Trauma Associates, quoted on abc.com.

I AM NOT AFRAID
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi, has declared that
he is not afraid of being sacked. He made the declaration on Wednesday
in Abuja while meeting with reporters ahead of their September 8 match
against the Lone Star of Liberia.
It was an apparent response to the Minister of
Sports Bolaji Abdullahi, who has insisted that the Eagles must qualify
for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations holding in South Africa. Keshi and
the other national football coaches have come under increased pressure
to win their matches following the poor performance of Nigeria at the
London 2012 Olympics. The game plan set out for Keshi’s team now is to
gun for outright wins in the two-legged clash and build up on that to
South Africa for the Nations Cup next year.
The country’s dismal performance in sports actually
began with football when the Eagles lost out of the first round at the
2010 World Cup in South Africa and capped it by failing to qualify for
the 2012 Nations Cup. The other teams, especially the Falcons, followed
suit by failing to qualify for the All Africa Games and the Olympics.
On Wednesday Keshi told reporters that if he got
sacked as the Eagles’ handler, depending on the outcome of the match,
it would not be the first time a coach would lose his job.
“I will not be the first coach in the world and I
will not be the last if I am to be sacked. I qualified the Eagles with
former coach Shaibu Amodu in 2002, but we did not go to the World
Cup,’’ he told News Agency of Nigeria.
“Sacking is not a big thing in our job because you are hired today and tomorrow you are fired. So what is the big deal?
“You sack me today and tomorrow, I get a better job.”
The coach said that he was already under pressure on how to coordinate the team to qualify for the Nations and World Cup finals.
“I have pressure on how I am going to direct my
players and how I am going to get the best out of them to beat Liberia;
that’s already enough pressure,” he said.
Keshi, who has also coached Togo and Mali, stressed
that qualifying the Eagles for the Nations Cup was more paramount to
him than a directive from anybody.
“This game is crucial and as such the players need
to feel the presence and support of everybody; this will boost their
confidence, and the outcome will be a good result,” he said.
UPDATE ON THE GENERAL DAUGHTER'S DEATH
You must all have seen or read (from news media NIGERIAN CAMPUS PERSONALITY INCLUDED) of the
story of how Cynthia Udoka Osokogu was killed by her Facebook friends.
First, the news went viral that she had been missing since late July
2012. Her body was later found in a morgue in Lagos. Here’s the full
story of how she died, how her killers were caught and their account of
what they did to her.
What Happened to Cynthia?
24
Year Old Cynthia Osokogu left Abuja in late July 2012 (according to
reports published on the 22nd of July 2012). Like many enterprising
young people, the post-graduate student of Nasarawa State University
was a clothing retailer and had travelled to Lagos to purchase new
stock. Cynthia had been chatting with some new “friends” on Facebook
for a few months. In the course of their conversations, they developed
a friendship and a level of trust. These young men were also university
students, they seemed normal and promised to host Cynthia when she came
to Lagos.
According
to reports, these young men picked Cynthia up from the airport in Lagos
and drove her to a hotel in Festac. At the hotel, they tied her up,
robbed her of all the money she brought to shop for her business and
strangled her to death. There is speculation that they paid for her
plane ticket and promised to pay for her hotel as well. Only Cynthia
knows if this is true. Whatever the truth is, Cynthia trusted her new
friends and had no idea that they had sinister plans.
They
then left the hotel and quickly deleted her from their Facebook friend
list to remove any trace of their connection. The hotel found her body
and since her ID cards and mobile phone had been stolen, they could not
identify her or call friends and family. Her body was then deposited in
a morgue in Lagos. All this time, her family and friends were praying
for her safe return.
How the Killers Were Caught
At
some point, one of the culprits accidentally answered Cynthia’s phone
and the call was traced to Festac. Therefore, her missing person’s
police report was submitted to the Area E Command in Festac. This
enabled her family to find her body in the morgue and also led them to
the hotel. With the help of CCTV footage from the hotel, the killers
were identified.
According
to reports, these two young men are university students who have now
confessed that they killed Cynthia and that she is their sixth victim.
The gang reportedly specializes in luring unsuspecting young women,
robbing them of their possessions before killing them. Though there are
speculations that their motive was ritualistic, it appears that it was
greed and their main goal was to rob and kill. The pharmacist who
supplied the drugs used on Cynthia and hotel staff have also been
arrested. According to Police spokesperson Ngozi Braide, “Six people were arrested on Sunday over the incident and investigations are ongoing”.
The Killers Account of how Cynthia was killed
According to PM News, two
murder suspects were paraded today by the Lagos State Police Command,
Ikeja. Echezona Nwabufor (aged 33) and Ezekiel Nnechuwu Olisa Eloka
(aged 23) narrated how they drugged the daughter of a retired General,
Miss Cynthia Akuzogwu Udoka, 25, and strangled her in order to steal
her money. One of the suspects, Eloka said they killed Cynthia because
they thought she had a lot of money in her possession. But after the
dastardly act, they did not find a reasonable amount of money on her.
The suspects claimed they met her on the Facebook and on Blackberry.
They then invited her to come to Lagos to buy goods at cheaper prices.
When she got to Lagos, we took her to a hotel in Festac. We thought she had a lot of money, but she said she didn’t have any money. We gave her Reflon tablet in her Ribena drink. After this, we slept with her for 12 hours in that hotel. We discovered that the tablet did not work quickly on her. We then attacked her, tied her up and used cellotape to cover her mouth. After that, we beat her to tell us where she kept the money. When we didn’t get any money from her, we tied her mouth and strangled her and then we abandoned her in the hotel and fled.
The
suspects and the retired General’s daughter became friends on Facebook
and were exchanging messages and phone calls. She told them she was
coming to Lagos. They met her at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja from
where they ushered her into a hotel in Festac town, Lagos. Briefing
journalists on how policemen were able to arrest the suspects, Lagos
State Commissioner of Police, Umar Abubakar Manko, said detectives made
use of the close circuit television, CCTV, at the hotel where the crime
was committed to identify them. The Area Commander, Area ‘E’ Police
Command, ACP Okoro added that the suspects who are undergraduates of
Nigerian universities were nabbed through the call logs of the
telephone conversations they had with the late Cynthia who was a post
graduate student of Nasarawa State University.
When the suspected
killers strangled Cynthia, they deposited her corpse at the mortuary of
Isolo General Hospital in Lagos. ACP Okoro stated that many ATM cards,
about 23 SIM cards, different identity cards were recovered from the
suspects. Police sources said the two suspects will soon be arraigned
in court to answer a charge of murder.
Lessons to be learnt
So
many comments have been posted online blaming Cynthia however, this
could have happened to anyone. With social media, this false sense of
comfort and trust can be very misleading. We know couples who met on
Facebook or BBM groups that are still together. If you ask them if they
took security measures to protect themselves when they first met, many
will confess that they did not. We hear of friendships built on Twitter
and BBM, where the first meeting was in the home of one of the friends.
The truth is anything can happen. You have to be savvy and wise.

5 WAYS TO ENJOY YOUR EXERCISING:
EXERCISING Is staying in shape always something that gets bumped to the bottom of your list? I know many people that complain about not having enough time to exercise. I think they are lying to themselves. The real problem is that they hate exercising, so it will never be a priority. I used to hate exercising too. Going to the gym, running and most forms of physical activity seemed dull and painful compared to most other ways I could spend my time. But by not giving up and looking for a way I could enjoy working out, I reversed this pattern. Now I exercise 5-6 times per week and I hate not being able to go. Here’s some tips to make exercise something you actually want to do:
1. Make it a Habit – Remove the thinking element. If you can make exercise a habit, then it becomes that much easier to go. Here’s some tips on making habits stick if you aren’t sure where to start.
2. Get a Partner – Get someone else to go to the gym with you. Pick someone who is committed to their health. Not only can you socialize with someone while you’re there, but you’ll have a backup in case your motivation alone isn’t enough to drag yourself out there.
3. Tune Your Challenge Level – Here are two bad ways to start exercising. Go out and run until your winded and dry-heaving into a ditch. Show up to the gym, walk around, don’t do anything strenuous and go back home. In one case you put the challenge level to high, the other wasn’t challenging at all. Your goal is to set a workout routine that is challenging, but not overwhelming. Challenge is key to enjoyment.
4. Set Goals – Not weight-loss or muscle gain goals, but fitness goals. Set goals to beat your past records in distance ran, push-ups or chin- ups you can do, weight you can lift or degree you can stretch. Fitness goals make the gym a game where you strive to beat your previous high-score.
5. Get Past Your Comfort Zone – So what if you aren’t the most svelte or muscular person in the gym? Self-consciousness can be a big obstacle to enjoying your workout. The key is to get used to it. When you continue to show up, you’ll pay less attention to the people around you and more to your workout.

Goldie's Fiance?
The Big Brother Africa star game second runner up Prezzo says he will marry Goldie if she says yes to his request. The 32-year-old Kenyan who is currently visiting in Nigeria, says he did not just travel ‘all the way from Kenya to play in Nigeria’; but to come and express his feelings to a woman nature brought his way in the Big Brother star game house. Prezzo, who apologised to Nigerians for the way he treated Goldie in the house, says he’s announcing his interest in Goldie publicly because they both met publicly in the Big Brother house; adding that he is ready to do whatever it takes to make her his Mrs. ‘I was not able to express all my feelings to Goldie in the house due to paranoia and I am ready to come and fight for a prize that worth it and that will make me a real winner…’No words from Goldie yet.
IF NOT FOR MUSIC. Chocolate City singer, Brymo has revealed football and zoology as his other interests apart from music. He said this in a recent interview with The Nation newspapers where he expressed his interest in football and animals, adding that music has however taken the centre stage, ‘I used to like football a lot; suddenly music took its place’, he added. Speaking on his album, he disclosed that plans are currently in place towards the release of his sophomore album which will be released soon. According to him, ‘I am working on my sophomore album called The son of a carpenter due to be out in the last quarter of the year, I just concluded the video for my second single titled Good Morning , so far, it’s been a fine year’. US billionaire George Soros 'takes' Manchester United
NEW YORK (AFP) – US billionaire George Soros has bought a stake in Manchester United, the British football club that made its Wall Street debut earlier this month, according to a filing with US regulators on Monday. Soros’ investment firm bought approximately 3.1 million class A shares, or 7.85 percent of the total Class A shares, a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) revealed. That comprises 1.9 percent of Manchester United, when the powerful Class B shares held by members of the Glazer family, who control and direct the club, are taken into account. Class B shares enjoy 10 times the voting rights in the company as compared with Class A shares. After an underwhelming initial public offering on August 10, shares in the club finished Monday at $13.06, down 6.7 percent from the IPO price of $14. Still, the club earned $233 million from the IPO, which valued it at about $2.3 billion, making it the most valuable sports team in the world.

BASKET MOUTH TURNS WRESTLER AT OWN HANG-OUT
One of the foremost comedians in Nigeria, Bright Okpocha popularly
known as Basket Mouth recently threw caution and decorum to the wind
when he engaged one of the patrons of his club-Embassy in a fisticuffs.
The fight which many tagged unnecessary started when a client went to
him as the owner to lodge a complaint about the maltreatment he got
from the bouncers.
According to our source who was there that Friday night, the patron went to the club, Embassy Lounge on University of Lagos Road to unwind. A little time into the merriment, he went out with a lady and when he was through, he wanted to go into the club but was prevented by the bouncers. After much explanation that they were many that came together, the young man was allowed in.
Eventually when he got in, he decided to lodge a complaint with Basket mouth. However, the mood of Basket mouth that night was not too good that instead of pacifying the young man, he stood up and head butted the guy. Shocked by what he got after the complaint, he had no option than to retaliate. our source further stated that the ace comedian was ‘high’ as at the time of the fight invited the bouncers to teach the man a lesson of his life. This we are told they did by dragging the victim outside beating him to a state of coma.
It would have been a different story if his other friends had not found out what was happening to the guy. He was rescued by the friend who quickly rushed him to a hospital before he was revived.- GLOBAL EXCELLENCE. Bros small small o.only you no go fit catch fun if people no come around you.
