SALES OF USED CONDOM: A MEANS OF LIVELIHOOD.

Apart from the campaign of the United Nations’ agency World Health Organization (WHO), men and women are aware of the dangers of unsafe sexual intercourse. Some individual takes steps to protect themselves against sexually transmitted diseases or unwanted pregnancies by using condoms popularly known as ‘CD’ or ‘Rain Coat’. However it is shocking to note that they stand a greater risk, if used condoms are not properly disposed.
It has been gathered that condoms not properly disposed by lodgers are in hot demand but spiritualist who pay as much as 10,000 for a fresh condom( that is one used few hours before the buyer came) and between 5,000 and 8,000 for old one( that is one used between 10 to 12 hours ago or overnight)
Sales of used condoms is a lucrative business in some hotels in Orile,  Ajegunle and Festac where hotel staff or attendants are not well paid. According to one in a rela… attendant ‘you know we are not well paid bu the hotel owners, so any avenue you know you will get money to make ends meet, you will go for it. At least if it is not stealing. So when some people (ritualist) were coming to ask for used condom we never took it to be anything serious and they persisted  we started gathering them for sale. Since we didn’t have anything to lose’
It is also revealed that swabs, which ladies used after intercourse are in hot demands by the ritualists. Swabs are not as costly as used condoms, swabs are sold for 3,00 or 5,000 depending on the state of the swab, that is, its freshness.
It is unsafe to have sexual intercourse without condom, it is also risky not to dispose used condoms and swabs properly.
